TIPS TO MAXIMIZE THE APPEAL OF YOUR HOME
- FIRST IMPRESSIONS ARE THE MOST LASTING. Your lawn should be trimmed, walkways swept, and the front door should be clean with a doorbell that works.
- LET THE SUN SHINE IN. Open the drapes and curtains. Clean the windows so that a prospective buyer can see how bright and cheerful your house is.
- ILLUMINATE! Turn on all of the interior lights, including accent and picture lights.
- LITTLE THINGS MEAN A LOT. Loose doorknobs or cabinet pulls, sticking doors and drawers, wobbly hinges, stuck windows - these are all negative factors. Take a few minutes to check and repair all these seemingly minor flaws.
- BATHROOMS SELL HOMES. Make bathrooms sparkle. Clean stained sinks and bowls, repair any damaged or discolored caulking around bathtubs and showers. Hang fresh, brightly-colored towels in the bathroom when prospective buyers are on the way.
- DON'T BE A DRIP. Fix any dripping faucets and showerheads.
- CLEAN UP THE CLUTTER. Give every room in the house a thorough cleaning, as well as removing all clutter. This alone will make your house appear bigger and brighter.
- CATCH THEIR EYE. During spring and summer months consider adding a few showy annuals, perhaps in pots or hanging baskets, near your front entrance. The bright seasonal flags that many people fly from their front porch are also a great way to brighten up the entrance to your home and grab the attention of drive-by buyers.
